Bloom! 2023 presented by the R.W. Norton Art Gallery
Spring is in the air, and to that end, so are spring themed exhibitions!!! This March the R.W. Norton Art Gallery in Shreveport, LA presented the juried art exhibition Bloom! 2023 to the community. For this exhibition, I was able share my work BEE+HOV[En] (pronounced Beethoven). This brightly colored mixed medium collage, is a nod to genius and artistry in the world of music over the centuries. The mix of flowers, bees, and jewels in the collage speak to the idea of the blossoming and bountiful relationship between the two modern musical icons Shawn Carter & Beyonce Knowles.
The exhibit opened on March 24 and will be on display in the R.W. Norton Art Gallery until May 7th. Afterwards the exhibit will travel to the Longview Museum of Fine Arts in Longview, Texas where it will be on display from May 27 to August 26. For more information visit http://www.rwnaf.org/events.
If you’re in town or traveling to Louisiana soon, make sure you check it out! For all pricing / purchasing inquiries please email info@rxbart.com.
About the Exhibit
This spring, an explosion of color rocks the Norton inside and out. Just as our botanical gardens burst forth with blossoms, BLOOM! bestows upon us an exhibit of canvases crowded with pigmented petals. It all began with an invitation for submissions on a floral theme for a juried competition. There were an astonishing 358 submissions this year from not only the Ark-La-Tex, but also across the United States and 16 countries around the world, all wonderfully rendered versions of lovely flora seen from a variety of interpretations and perspectives.
Because of the quality of all these submissions, it was truly difficult to select the 51 which make up this year’s display. But, now you can enjoy the beauties of nature without the perils of pollen or bad weather as you stroll along through our garden-inspired galleries.
About the R.W. Norton Art Gallery
The R.W. Norton Art Gallery houses an exceptional collection of art spanning more than four millennia. Since its opening in 1966, the museum has become particularly well-known around the country for its impressive collections of works by those titans of western art, Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell. The R.W. Norton Art Gallery is a teaching museum that uses the art to encourage community participation in thoughtful interpretations and discussions.
In the early 1920's, Richard W. Norton (1886-1940) became one of the discoverers of the Rodessa Oil Field in north Louisiana. Over time, Mr. Norton's wife and son began to amass a significant collection of fine art. In 1946, to honor his father and for the benefit of the community, Richard W. Norton, Jr. (1919-1974) and his mother, Mrs. Richard W. Norton (1886-1975) created the R.W. Norton Art Foundation. In turn, the Foundation eventually established the R.W. Norton Art Gallery, basing its initial collection upon donations from the acquisitions of the Nortons. Today, due to the on-going efforts of the Board of Control and the Foundation's work, the R.W. Norton Art Gallery's offerings continue to expand, grow, and contribute to their community.
